This 3-man new wave anarchy group is formed by Satojima Nani (Dr. & Vo.) and Yoshiharu Kakoi (Gt) from Kobe, and Showgo Yoshikawa (B) from Awaji-shima. The December 31, 2000 countdown show, which started in mid-afternoon, marked the formation of ZUINOSIN. They carried out a guerrilla show that involved throwing feces while surrounded by pedestrians and police. It was their first live concert. The original group was composed of 5 members, but just before this first performance 3 members withdrew.
The next year they appeared at the first of the legendary kansai Skam Events, "Chikusho", where they ran into the organizer Showgo Yoshikawa who then joined the group. As they worked together they noticed that getting together their instruments, for example samplers, oil drums, bicycle tires, etc was actually going to be very difficult. However by the end of the year 2002 they were finally able to complete the present set of instruments, after which they performed more and more, mainly in the Kansai region.
It was around this time that ZUINOSIN also did shows with groups like Ove-NaXx, KA4U and gulpepsh!, all of whom exerted a great influence on their style. ZUINOSIN also collaborated on one track in the album "Hard Marchen in Osaka" (Nazna Oiran Inc.) which was released in the summer of 2004. And in the fall of the same year, they collaborated on a song on the album "How to Feel the Emptyhours?" (de-fragment) which was created through a conspiracy between the groups Speedmeter and Illreme, "SPDILL".
ZUINOSIN's anarchy theory has permeated every region of Japan, and to this day in Kansai, where self-assertive musicians gather, ZUINOSIN is still aggressively acquiring performance skills, entertainment ability, and impact, creating a diverse and comprehensive, dangerous group. Just the other day the similar group Afrirampo achieved a major debut, making them a hot topic. In recent years, ZUINOSIN has preformed together with UA, Yuji Takahashi, Gin-nan Boyz, Kenji Endo, Back Drop Bomb, Rize, and Sakerock, giving excellent performances and achieving positive reviews.
Each member would also like fans to notice the diverse range of colourful individual projects they've been working on. Satojima Nani disguises himself as DJ??? (Drum Jockey Nani Nani Nani) and has put all his energy into developing an instructional drum video called "HYSTRICDRUM". Working at a furious pace he has already released a total of 5 tapes. In response to the video, he received an invitation from Shinji Masuko of DMBQ to participate in Hydro-Guru. In addition, he has formed a 2-person Pop-Side unit called "CxAxP" with Kenji Yamanaka (Munzu). He also toured with UltraBide on their American tour as a supporting act, and taking advantage of this opportunity he has been able to work with Hide (UltlaBide), Tabata (Leningrad Blues Machine) and Amazon Saliva. Also, he has done sessions with musicians like Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Tatsuya Yoshida, Yuji Katsui, Keiko Komori, Oorutaichi, Taku Han-noda, gulpepsh!, Hiromichi Sakamoto, Yoshitake Expe, Yoshimitsu Ichiraku, Tenko, Shuichi Sen-no, Alfred Halt, Yumiko Tanaka, and Minoru Kawabata, getting involved in a wide range of activities.
Yoshiharu Kakoi has also become involved in independent projects, doing sessions with Tatsuya Yoshida and others. In addition, side by side with KURANT he has created the group SPDILL and is president of the label "cnss.cc", along with involvement in a wide variety of other activities.
The independent Showgo Yoshikawa has published the stateless international anarchical illustration magazine 'PALiNiLLiLLmAstEr', with contributions from international artists and groups, for example Pakito Bolino Nuvish of the French art collective Le Dernier Cri, the Dutch art collective Antistrot, and from many Japanese illustrators. He has also created a sticker label, "hePalin", and gotten involved in animation and VJing. He's gotten so involved in these projects that he has almost forgotten about the band.
An outstanding band, ZUINOSIN is a monster that has given birth to the worldly by-products that such a group should. It all started in the year 1995, the year of the great Hanshin earthquake, the year of the sarin attacks on Tokyo's subways, and the year that a 14 year old boy bludgeoned a young girl to death and beheaded a school boy in what was to be know as the Sakakibara incident. It was the year that the myth of safety collapsed. It was in the same period that the economic bubble, which was at the height of it's growth, collapsed and started the Heisei economic depression, that the breakdown of academic standards became an everyday occurrence, and that the elite diplomats who were supposedly responsible for leading the country were found to be guilty of corruption. It was the year that the gears of the old system started creaking one after another, and that the fact that our lives are perhaps based upon an unstable foundation was made clear.
The paradigm was collapsing, and in the year 1995, which saw the outbreak of these simultaneous multiple incidents, ZUINOSIN's future members were junior high school students and at a very sensitive age. The incidents that made them most aware of the collapse of the paradigm were those that occurred locally, the great Hanshin earthquake and the Sakakibara incident.
The paradigm, which we all maintain even though we may at times carry some doubts, was easily transgressed by these events. To ZUINOSIN's members these occurrences were things that should have only been possible in the world of anime, such as Katsuhiro Otomo's "Akira" and Minetaro Mochizuki's "Dragon Head". The events of 1995 live on in the hearts of ZUINOSIN's generation, those presently in their early 20's, the generation that saw it all happen with their own eyes. Having survived everything they feel relief, but also have a sense of extreme nihilism and feel unease about the future.
Society's structure creaks, and those who have seen our sense of values such as reason and morality continue to collapse have a sensitive response to the events of this world. An attempt to be tough and somehow survive in the loopholes gave rise to ZUINOSIN's characteristic "anarchism".
If we look at the bands Afrirampo and Oshiri Penpenzu, which are also very active, we can see that they take a similar posture. To quote Satojima Nani disguised as DJ ???'s signature phrase, which he repeatedly advocates in his instructional drum video, "If this were part of the world, it would be anarchy". That phrase was changed into a band, and the monster that resulted is ZUINOSIN.
Pushing through and delicate and refined, a steamroller beat that is amplified by irregular time, with an extraordinary number of effects resembling Asshura-Man's manic drumming style, an impossible sound, an attempt to put bpm into the mortal shape of a band, and which also includes original and eccentric language, everyone who watches will be entrapped in a sense of lost fighting spirit, the very strange KITERETSU Live Performance. This is all arises from the postmodern structure of society which began in the late 70's, and seemingly embodies the distortion of the paradigm.
ZUINOSIN is the monster that appeared to spread this distortion. What exactly is the post paradigm destruction generation's anarchism? What is music anarchism? This debut work presents just one answer to these questions which have innumerable answers. It also provides thousands of answers recorded very closely and leaving no spaces. This album is clearly defined, crazy, high power otic link to this world.
If you listen to this album, you'll discover what kind of monster you have in you, and also ask yourself how you will control it.
